Phillip Ummel was hired to be the girls soccer head coach in May of 2007. Entering his fourth season, Coach Ummel has amassed a career record of 29-22-4 while at NorthWood. The girls soccer team has also set a school record for wins in each of the last two seasons (10 in 2008 and 12 in 2009).
Coach Ummel graduated from Argos High School in 1998 and furthered his education at Bethel College. He has a degree in both Business Administration and Elementary Education. He is currently a 6th grade teacher at Monger Elementary in the Elkhart Community Schools system.
His most memorable moment was coaching the team to the sectional finals during the 2009 season. In the first two rounds of sectionals, the girls soccer team defeated both Goshen and Northridge for the first time in school history. Coach Ummel can’t wait to bring home the first girls soccer sectional trophy in school history.
